Val’s writing has appeared in publications as varied as peer-reviewed academic journals, as columns in weekly newspapers and in the ‘Journal of Volunteer Administration’. She is also an award-winning fiction writer whose work has been heard on CBC radio and been featured in anthologies including ‘Chicken Soup for the Soul. She is a Distinguished Toastmaster and has presented on narrative topics at Toastmaster conferences. She has taught creative writing and given presentations to the Canadian Red Cross, volunteer groups, history and natural history societies and to employees in the public service. She received the ‘Canadian Achiever’ award for her work as co-writer of the book  “Making a Difference: A Guide to Volunteering for Canadian Youth”.

Her most recent book is “Graved in Gold”, a mystery novel set in a small gold rush town. Nancy Darke is faced with trying to establish herself as an independent woman in a time and place that she is unwanted. When an old priest is murdered next door her very survival is at stake. Can she find a new life with her friends in a rough gold mining town?

Val’s work has been published in the US, Canada and the UK. Her current work in progress is the second in the ‘Gold’ series, titled ‘Veiled in Gold’. It too is a historical mystery  based in gold rush BC in Victorian times  but features a mysterious veiled lady whose past is highly questionable.

Val has made more than 100 presentations to both Toastmaster and outside groups. She is a teacher, mentor and specializes in speech development and evaluation.

    I am not sure whether or not you are the one who wrote the wonderful story “The Unlikely Gift,” from ‘I Cannot Believe My Cat Did That’ book for the Chicken Soup for the Soul Series. The story, however, touched my heart and soothed my soul in a very positive way. Please let me know if you are the same Valerie Fletcher Adolph who wrote the story.
